TaxPayers’ Alliance responds to gold-plated pensions for councillors

For immediate release

Responding to plans announced to grant local councillors "gold-plated", defined benefit contributions, Elliot Keck, head of campaigns of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said:

"Taxpayers will be appalled to see Labour so irresponsibly doling out gold plated pensions to their comrade councillors.

"Just when the public finances from Whitehall to town halls are on the brink, and as local authorities slash services to cope, Steve Reed has disgracefully decided to give every local councillor an early Christmas present.

"Labour should immediately reverse this decision and look instead at scrapping these unaffordable schemes for council officials."
